How do measurable.energy sockets impact building safety?
Every measurable.energy socket runs what we call a Socket Safety Service. This is a combination of:
- A smart feature inside all of our plug socket hardware that automatically switches off sockets that measure unsafe energy use measured by both current (amps) and duration (time)
- A reporting system that highlights trends in appliance safety relating to safety switch offs and energy use above the 13A rating of the socket
We do this because plug socket safety has long been an overlooked and under addressed problem in buildings. The latest IFSEC Annual Fire Safety Report stated that there are '16,000 non-residential fires reported each year. The number one cause is overloaded plug.
The system has been able to stop faulty heaters, prevent overloaded extension leads and capture some very unsafe plug socket behaviour before damage can be caused.
For more details on how this works please see the Socket Safety Service pages.
