The reporting calculation is based on consultation with energy consultants who previous to the m.e Platform would have done this work manually.
The cost is worked out over 100 sockets as a baseline and extrapolated. Historically before using the m.e Platform, a consultant would need to set up spot monitors over the 100 sockets and record active energy and standby energy use. The data would then need to be collated together and analysed to identify total energy use and the potential energy savings. In addition, the carbon emissions from that energy would need to be manually calculated either using averages or lining up with the grid's carbon intensity data. This would then need to be presented in a report format and repeated over on a monthly/quarterly/yearly basis as required. For 100 sockets, it was calculated that a consultant would charge for a minimum of 2 days of consulting at an average of £750/day to carry out this work. On top, they may charge extra for report compiling and also do this exercise more than once a year. Over 100 sockets this is a minimum cost of £1500 or £15/socket/year. The m.e Platform does this automatically without any additional costs.
